New FAA rules require now that if you fly a drone outside, you will need to pass a test to be able to fly it legally. We will review and administer the new FAA test and issue you a certificate in this lunchtime seminar-formatted evening class. START WHEN FAA GETS US THE TEST MATERIALS (ESTIMATE: JANUARY 2019)

107DPA 102: Commercial Drone Pilot Recurrent Test Prep Class – $150 (one day)
If you are an FAA Certified Remote Pilot with a UAS rating, you must renew that certificate every 2 years. If your certificate is expired, you cannot exercise your commercial privileges as a UAS pilot. This class includes any new changes to the FAA UAS regulations as well as updates the material that is on the recurrent test.  Instructors have recently taken the Unmanned Ground Recurrent (UGR) test themselves.

DPA 103: Commercial Drone Pilot First Time Test Prep Class–$300 (two days)
licenseCurriculum: Applicable regulations relating to small unmanned aircraft system rating privileges, limitations, and flight operation. Airspace classification and operating requirements, and flight restrictions affecting small unmanned aircraft operation. Aviation weather sources and effects of weather on small unmanned aircraft performance. Small unmanned aircraft loading and performance. Emergency procedures. Crew resource management. Radio communication procedures. Determining the performance of small unmanned aircraft. Physiological effects of drugs and alcohol, Aeronautical decision-making and judgment. Airport operations, Maintenance and preflight inspection procedures
Materials: ASA UAS Drone Test Preparation Manual. Certificate of Completion
Registration in FAA IACRA and completion of Form 8710-13 at the FAA IACRA Website.


DPA 201: FAA 107 Test Prep and Flight Training Program – $450 (3 days)

This course is 3 days and includes flight training on a Phantom 3 drone (or bring your drone in and we teach you to fly it).
Curriculum: Applicable regulations relating to small unmanned aircraft system rating privileges, limitations, and flight operation. Airspace classification and operating requirements, and flight restrictions affecting small unmanned aircraft operation. Aviation weather sources and effects of weather on small unmanned aircraft performance. Small unmanned aircraft loading and performance. Emergency procedures. Crew resource management. Radio communication procedures. Determining the performance of small unmanned aircraft. Physiological effects of drugs and alcohol. Aeronautical decision-making and judgment. Airport operations. Maintenance and preflight inspection procedures

Materials: Students train on a Phantom 3, are issued a current ASA UAS Drone Test Preparation Manual and Chart Supplement, receive a Certificate of Completion, are registered in the FAA IACRA and are helped with the completion of Form 8710-13 at the FAA IACRA Website. Courses are led by professional drone instructors, who have hundreds of logged flight hours, have taught over 500 students, and have conducted missions in 32 states and 12 countries. 

DPA 202: The Drone Pilot Academy Professional Course –$800 (4 Days)
Day 1 – Intro to Unmanned Aircraft Systems
Day 2 – Build A Drone – Build a DJI Drone from Basic Components
Day 3 – Drone Flight School (Flying a DJI f450)
Day 4 – Part 107 Test Prep Class

Materials: Students issued a DJI f450 drone kit (plus controller and batteries), a current ASA UAS Drone Test Preparation Manual and Chart Supplement, a Certificate of Completion, Registration in FAA IACRA and completion of Form 8710-13 at the FAA IACRA Website. Courses are led by professional drone instructors, that have built f450s, have hundreds of logged flight hours, have taught over 500 students, and have conducted missions in 32 states and 12 countries.

The Newport Regional Airport has joined with Career Tech High’s Drone Pilot Academy to develop a drone pilot training and testing center at the Newport Regional Airport (NPO). These courses are scheduled to begin in January 2019 and will be held in the pilot’s lounge of the Newport airport on Sundays throughout the year.
